( - Louisiana is hosting the SEC Gymnastics championships Saturday afternoon for the first time since 1998.

Two sessions of competition will take place at the Smoothie King Center today at 3 p.m. LSU Gymnastics coach DD Breaux says, after years of laboring to convince the SEC to bring the championships back home she got some help this time.

“Having a governor that believes in us and an athletic director that just lays it all out there for us and they got together and talked to the commissioner and said this is going to happen

The Tigers are the number one seed and the defending SEC meet champions. Breaux says the season started rough because of injuries, but ever since beating the Crimson Tide in January, the team has taken off.

“When you beat an Alabama team it kind of infuses you with motivation and enthusiasm, and you know at that point I felt like a football coach. I was screaming and hollering and this team just rolled and said we got this.”

Breaux says the purple and gold community will have a big presence in the Smoothie King Center and Tiger fans should grab their tickets now while they can.

“The tickets are still on sale at Ticketmaster and we are expecting it to be a Purple and Gold crowd. It has been absolutely unbelievable, the highest ticket sales for this event in the history of women’s gymnastics in the conference.”
