The New Orleans City Council today narrowly rejected a limit on the number of French Quarter Strip clubs, The New Orleans Advocate reports.

The proposal would have capped the number of adult entertainment venues at 12, which is the present number in operation.

The vote comes after raids on various strip clubs resulted in allegations of prostitution, drug sales, and other unlawful behavior. A few strip clubs lost their liquor permits and closed down.
