The New Orleans City Council today voted to approve a roughly $700 million dollar budget for 2019.

Council budget committee chairman Jared Brossett says they added a little money to Mayor LaToya Cantrell's proposed budget: $3.8 million worth.

"As the budget committee chair, I wanted to ensure that the council maintained an efficient, rigorous, budget review process as was promised to the citizens of New Orleans," Brossett said, "to ensure the residents of New Orleans have an effective, efficient, and sustainable government services and programs that will improve their quality of life," said Brossett.

Brossett says funding to public safety and for youth and family programs has been increased, along with public works, for catch basin cleaning. Other areas receiving increases include early childhood education programs and the public defender's office.
