New Orleans' annual Red Dress Run takes place this Saturday, August 12th.

Thousands of guys and gals will party in pretty dresses and run or walk through the French Quarter to benefit local charities.

This year's event takes place at a new venue. The starting point of the run, as well as the pre- and after party, are all at Crescent Park on the Marigny riverfront.

"It's a big covered area, in case it rains," says spokeswoman Mona Triche. "It's also right off the river, so there's new scenery."

The party starts at 9am Sunday. The run starts at 11 and the party continues 'til 5 with food and live entertainment.

"You come back at noon and we'll have food. 'Remedy', our band starts at 12:30. The Brass-A-Holics start at 2, and we'll just have a lot of fun," saya Triche.

Triche hopes most of those folks will register and pay up to join the fun, rather than just joining in the run.

"That would be nice," he says. "We definitely encourage it. I think what most people don't understand is that all the profits go to local charities."

In fact, last year's roughly 4,000 registered runners raised over $100,000 for charity. In its 10-year history, the New Orleans Red Dress Run has raised roughly $2 million.
