NBC today fired Today Show host Matt Lauer after allegations of inappropriate sexual behavior at work.

The network made the announcement this morning on the Today Show.

NBC says, "Matt Lauer, the anchor of "Today" for two decades, was terminated from NBC News after a detailed complaint about inappropriate sexual behavior in the workplace."

Lauer's co-anchor Savannah Guthrie made the announcement with Hoda Kotb. Watch the video:

NBC News Chairman Andrew Lack said in a memo to employees that the complaint was made by a colleague of Lauer's.  Lack said it prompted a serious review and represented a "clear violation of our company's standards."

Lack added that this is the first complaint about Lauer, but he added, "we were also presented with reason to believe this may not have been an isolated incident."

Lauer has been on the Today Show for more than 20 years.
