A new survey finds nearly 70 percent of Americans say they expect to be better off financially in the New Year.

Fidelity Investments found plenty of optimism. According to LSU Economics Professor Dr. Jim Richardson, why not?

''People are saying hey I'm doing okay and I don't have to worry about being unemployed, I'm not worried about my pension fund, so I feel pretty good,'' said Richardson.

Richardson cites low unemployment, low inflation and a soaring stock market.  On the expected tax cut: ''Relatively small to fairly substantial for some people but it won't necessarily make your day.''

If people spend more money and companies do well, it's only going to make the economy even stronger.
