Have you heard about the push to declare the Monday after the Super Bowl a holiday? A workforce survey finds millions of American workers today have just decided to declare it one, anyway.

According to the survey from The Workforce Institute and Kronos, Inc., 17.5 million people aren't at their jobs today. About 11 million arranged to have Super Bowl Monday off, but the survey finds about 4.5 million workers are calling in sick, and many more are just not showing up .

UNO business professor Mark Rosa says behavior like this has caused some businesses to change how they handle sick leave.

"Many employers have just lumped all the leave as a benefit into what's called 'paid time off,' so you get so many days off a year," said Rosa. "I don't care if you're sick, you're well, okay, when then runs out, then you're up against no other leave. And if you were an abuser of any of the leave, well, it tends to run out more quickly."

The people behind the survey recommend businesses find ways to dial back the workday on Super Monday, to encourage workers to come in.
