Lots of people are hitting the road for the long holiday weekend. It's the most travelers in 14 years -- and for people going by car, the most ever, according to AAA.

"It looks like it's going to be a very busy time," said AAA spokesman Don Redman. "We're talking about 43 million Americans traveling."

Redman says that's for all modes of travel, but most will go by car.

"As a matter of fact, we're talking about the most on record for a holiday, those traveling by car," he said. "That'll be about 37.6 million."

Redman said overall, it's the most travelers since 2005. More locally:

"When you look regionally, at the area including Louisiana, about 3.9, almost 4 million people, will be traveling by motor vehicle, so that's up about three percent, a little more than three percent than last year."

Redman says gasoline prices are less than what they were last memorial day holiday, but the main reason more people are traveling is because the economy is improving overall.
