New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell called a news conference today to update the public on the city's responsiveness and public safety preparedness for weather events.

''So if you care about New Orleans, like I know that we all do, you need to care about storm water and drainage, we will never pump our way out of this which requires that we do more,'' Cantrell said.

Reflecting on the response from last Friday, Cantrell added, ''we are doing everything we can to mitigate but it is pretty much the best we are doing and we were able to do on Friday but we are getting better every single day."

The mayor said her team is developing infrastructure plans that include new sidewalks to absorb and hold rain water, cisterns under parks and public areas to hold water, and other plans.
