New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell told CBS News and CNN that the federal response to the coronavirus pandemic is "unacceptable" and "inadequate."

"We have limited supply because demands and the pressure, they are continuing to heat up," the mayor told CBS' David Begnaud. "It's unacceptable, quite frankly, in the United States of America, it's unacceptable."

"We have more people on ventilators that are not coming off," Cantrell told CNN's Erin Burnett. "That just creates that backlog and an added burden."

The mayor related to Burnett how it is not just equipment resources, but also personnel, that are being strained.

"The scene on the ground is really unimaginable as it relates to the United States of America," the mayor said. "My EMS department, over 50 percent of my people, are on quarantine."
