The northshore community of Mandeville is looking to spend $2-million dollars to rebuild and raise its seawall.

However, its not because of flooding, which is common in Old Mandeville when storms like Hurricane Barry pushed water over the wall and into the low lying community.

Mayor Donald Villere says it's to get better insurance rates for lakefront residents, according to WWL-TV.

Villere says raising the seawall one foot could lower premiums from $10-thousand dollars a year, down to $1,800.

Mandeville will hold an open comment session on the proposed seawall heightening at next Wednesday, September 18, at City Hall at 6pm.
