A man suspected of stealing several artists' carts from the Jackson Square area and dumping them in the Mississippi river surrendered to police this morning, according to the New Orleans Police Department.

Police booked Landon Semones this morning.

Police say Semones broke into a locked area of the breezeway in the 700 block of Decatur Street and stole several of the carts that local artists secure there overnight.

Carts and the material they held were later found floating down the Mississippi River. ProjectNOLA posted camera images of a man rolling the carts toward the river.

A GoFundMe set up to help artists recover their losses has raised more than $19,000 so far.

Semones was booked into Orleans Parish Prison on charges of unauthorized entry into a business and eleven counts of theft.
