Authorities say they had to use a helicopter to rescue a duck hunter who was shot in the back.

"The Coast Guard medevaced a man with a gunshot wound near Lake Borgne, Louisiana, Friday," 8th District Public Affairs said in a news release.

The call came in just before 10:00am

"Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector New Orleans received a report at 9:55 a.m. of a man who sustained an accidental gunshot wound to his lower back while duck hunting."

It happened about ten miles northeast of Hopedale in St. Bernard Parish.

"Sector watchstanders directed the launch of an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter aircrew from Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans to medevac the man."

They hoisted the man into the chopper and flew him to University Medical Center in New Orleans in stable condition.
