Louisiana State Police say a man is dead after another driver's boat and trailer hit his vehicle.

It happened Monday afternoon in St. James Parish on LA 18 at Pecan Street.

"The crash took the life of 49 year old David Burvant of Slidell, LA," Trooper Jesse LaGrange said. "The preliminary investigation revealed 20 year old Jeremiah Allee of St. Amant was traveling north on LA 18 in a 2016 Chevrolet Silverado. He was towing a boat and trailer. Burvant was traveling south on LA 18 approaching Allee. As the vehicles approached one another, for reasons still under investigation, Allee’s boat trailer detached from his vehicle."

He says the boat and trailer crossed the center line, and hit Burvant’s vehicle.

"Burvant sustained critical injuries. He was transported to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Gonzales," according to the trooper. "Burvant later died from his injuries."

LaGrange say that while towing or hauling objects, Louisiana law states all items must be secure.
