Man dead after driving into lake, passenger rescued, good Samaritan missing

A man is dead after driving his car into Lake Pontchartrain.  His passenger survived after a rescue, but one of the rescuers disappeared during the rescue.

"Victims #1 and #2 were in the parking lot of the Blue Crab Restaurant when Victim #1 placed the vehicle in drive and accelerated into Lake Pontchartrain," according to the NOPD Major Offense Log.

Four people reportedly jumped into the water to try an pull the men to safety.

"Victim #3 and three others jumped in to save the occupants of the vehicle.  Both Victim #1 and Victim #2 were rescued from the vehicle and transported to a local hospital via EMS."

Police says the driver was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital.  The passenger is listed as stable.

The Coast Guard search for the missing good Samaritan continues as best it can in the rain and wind.

The missing man is identified as an employee at the Blue Crab.  The driver and passenger had reportedly been in an argument at the restaurant, and they were asked to leave minutes before the car plunged into the water.
