TPSO: Man arrested for manslaughter after fight with other man ends in gunshot

The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office arrested a 22- year -old Hammond man yesterday morning and charged him with manslaughter. 

Shortly before midnight on Friday,  while deputies were working a security detail in the Emergency Room at North Oaks Medical Center they discovered two men suffering from gunshot wounds. 

While investigating the incident, 22-year -old Tyrius Young of Hammond, told deputies that he was involved in a physical altercation with one of the subjects, 19-year-old Adrius “AJ” Warren of Independence, when a handgun he was holding accidentally discharged as he was being punched by Warren.  Warren was shot in the chest as a result.  Young's mother, who was present at the scene of the altercation, was also accidentally struck in the hip by stray gunfire.   Both men were transported to the medical facility by friends or family members.  

The incident took place on Rogers Rd. in Hammond. 

Warren was immediately rushed into the operating room.  Warren died at the hospital shortly after 1 a.m.  Young's mother was treated and released.  Young was arrested.

The investigation remains active and on-going.
