Jeff Palermo reporting...

After losing to 16-9 on Thursday night, panic was starting to set in as that marked the fourth straight loss for an LSU team dealing with several injuries. But the Bayou Bengals responded with two lopsided wins over the Gators and they won the series with an 11-2 win on Saturday afternoon.

For the series, the Tigers scored 33 runs and improved their record to 26-15 , 11-7 in the SEC.

When LSU scores a bunch of runs, the top of the order usually has a big day and that was the case Saturday. Lead off hitter Josh Smith had three hits, including his 6th home run. Number two hitter Brandt Broussard scored three runs. And the number three hitter, Antoine Duplantis capped off a great series with three hits and four runs driven in. Duplantis has a team-high 44 RBIs on the season and had nine hits for the weekend.

After a couple of sub-par outings, Eric Walker went 5.2 innings to improve his record to 3-3. Walker struck out five and allowed two runs.

Zack Hess came out of the bullpen for the first time this season to test his injured groin. Hess looked good, throwing 2.1 innings, allowing two hits and striking out three.

The Tigers will take Easter off as they find themselves one game out of first place in the SEC West. They trail Arkansas who swept Mississippi State.

LSU has a chance to build a winning streak. They host Lamar on Tuesday night and then travel to Tuscaloosa for a weekend series against Alabama. The Crimson Tide is in last place in the SEC West.
