LSU football Coach Ed Orgeron is set for a new contract, which includes a two year extension and a 14 percent pay increase, which will take his annual salary to $4 million a year.

WWL.com LSU Columnist Jeff Palermo says he thinks the coach is deserving after a 10-win season and another bowl appearance and victory. He says strong recruiting also helped but other coaches in the south are making more money.

"(University of Alabama head coach) Nick Saban is making over $8 million a year," said Palermo. "(Texas A&M head coach) Jimbo Fisher making $7.5 million a year."

Seven SEC coaches are paid more than Orgeron.

What about the goals for the future?

"Beat Alabama, win an SEC West title, and play for the SEC Championship in Atlanta and then he will please a lot of LSU fans if he does that,'' Palermo said.

Should things go bad next season, Orgeron’s buyout at the start of the deal would be $10 million.
