Low chance of tropical development for Gulf disturbance

The National Hurricane Center is watching a disorganized cluster of showers and storms just east of Louisiana and south of Alabama.

"Some slight development of this system is possible before the trough moves onshore along the northeastern Gulf Coast on Monday," said Hurricane Specialist Robbie Blake. "The system is then forecast to move northeastward and emerge offshore of the Carolinas on Wednesday, where enviromental conditions are expected to be more conducive for development."

For now, the hurricane center gives the disturbance only a 20 percent chance of development into a depression or named storm in the next five days.

Tropical Depression Five, meanwhile, is expected to move east-northeast, passing north of Bermuda, and then out to sea.
