While many throughout the state may be showing love for Coach Ed Orgeron, no one is more excited about his success than those in the area where he grew up.  Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Lt. Brennan Matherne says the area already bleeds purple and gold.

“That’s one thing, so there is a lot of celebration around LSU winning a national title, but certainly, it is to another level as we know it is one of our own that coached them to that national title,” Matherne said.

Matherne says the majority of the parish has supported Coach O, even when he was working with other football programs outside of the state of Louisiana.

“Now make no mistake there was, just like in Baton Rouge, a handful of doubters here, even in Lafourche Parish, but we are happy to say now that he has proven everybody wrong and has made believers out of everyone,” Matherne added.

Matherne says there is now a grassroots effort in place to get Orgeron to be a grand marshal in one of the parish’s Mardi Gras parades this year.

“I think everyone here understands that he probably has obligations elsewhere but I know that the hope is that we might see Coach O at some point during Carnival season," Matherne noted.  "We have three weekends of parades and I know that that is the hope.”
