For the second straight week, LSU quarterback Joe Burrow has been named SEC Offensive Player of the Week. Burrow threw for a career-high 471 yards and four touchdowns in the 45-38 win over Texas. Coach Ed Orgeron is glad Burrow is leading his offense.

“Reminds me a lot of (former Saints QB) Bobby Hebert, now he doesn’t talk a lot like Bobby, but Bobby was a leader, Bobby could make the play,  and Bobby had some toughness and grit and Joe is the same way, Joe is going to be an NFL quarterback and have a lot of success.” said Orgeron.

LSU needed a big game from Burrow, because the Tigers defense had trouble stopping Texas. The Longhorns threw for 409 yards and Orgeron blames the lack of a consistent pass rush.

“But we’re going to get better at that and we had some coverage stuff, we had some break downs, we had some misalignment, we had some missed assignments, just simple things, but the good thing is we won and we can fix it,” said Orgeron.

LSU hosts Northwestern State this Saturday. Orgeron says two starters on the D-Line are not expected to play because of injuries, Glen Logan and Rashard Lawrence. Coach O says that will give other guys a chance to play.

“Neil Farrell Jr. has been playing really well for us he’s going to start, Breiden Fehoko is going to start at end, Tyler Shelvin at nose tackle, Siaki Ika at nose tackle and you see the likes of Jarrell Cherry he can play, Joe Evans a young guy from Haynesville,” said Orgeron.

Freshman Cade York is also getting honors from the SEC. He was named SEC Special Teams Player of the Week.  York made all three of his field goals and extra points against Texas. He’s now 5-for-5 on field goals, 11-and-11 for extra points for the season.

LSU will kick-off against the Demons on Saturday at 6:30. The SEC announced that the Tigers game against Vanderbilt on September 21st will kick off at 11 AM.
