As medical marijuana first became available today after a four-year wait in Louisiana, there are some people who are anxious to try it.

Some of the people suffer from diseases that cause them terrible pain and other maladies.

A woman identified only as Claire told WWL First News, "I can't wait to try it and I have hope, because nothing will fix the condition I have but it's about quality of life."

She has "stiff person syndrome" and says traditional medications, including opioids, have failed her.

"It is very rare, they believe it is an auto-immune neurological disorder that will get worst in time," Claire said.

Some of the doctors authorized to prescribe the products say they plan to keep track of how their patients do, so they can make recommendations to others in the future.
