Matt Lauer has released his first statement since NBC fired him for inappropriate sexual behavior after more than 20 years on the Today Show.

"There are no words to express my sorrow and regret for the pain I have caused others by words and actions," Lauer said.

NBC's Savannah Guthrie read the statement on the air.

Lauer said he is looking at his "own troubling flaws."  He added that not everything that is being reported about him is true.
