Louisiana GOP representatives in Washington have taken the lead in defending President Donald Trump and decrying and deriding the impeachment inquiry public testimony as political theater.

Benton Representative Mike Johnson told the Times-Picayune/New Orleans Advocate, "The Democrats have been rehearsing this for weeks.  This is the opening day of the play.  They have a well-rehearsed script."

In the U.S. Senate, Republican Bill Cassidy responded to the opening of hearing, vowing: "If this comes to the Senate, we will handle the proceeding seriously and impartially, not like the media circus going on in the House."

Baton Rouge Republican Garrett Graves objects with the way the impeachment inquiry started in the House Intelligence Committee, instead of the House Judiciary Committee, makes the process partisan and based on politics.

The Intelligence Committee hearings are scheduled to hand off their process after Thanksgiving to the Judiciary Committee.

Two of Louisiana's six house members sit on that committee, Republican Mike Johnson and Cedric Richmond, the lone Democrat congressman.
