Officials in Kenner today announced they have terminated the employment of the city's fire chief.

"Fire Chief John Hellmers was relieved of duty today following an internal investigation," Kenner Chief Administrative Officer Deborah Foshee
announced in a news release.

It comes after weeks of an internal investigation.  Authorities have not released the details or subject matter of the probe into Hellmers.

"The Zahn Administration will make no further comments regarding this personnel matter until all appeal delays are exhausted."

Foshee said that the chief has the right to appeal his firing to the Kenner Fire Civil Service Board.

"Interim Fire Chief Ryan Bergeron will remain in charge of the Department as he has been since Chief Hellmers was first placed on Administrative leave."
