New Orleans police say a 15-year-old juvenile male was shot in the abdomen while attempting to burglarize an automobile in the 7300 block of West Renaissance Court.

The incident occurred around 12:40 a.m. on Tuesday.  The juvenile was allegedly shot by the occupants of a dark van that was seen in the vicinity earlier in the evening. He said he could not identify the shooter.

The juvenile advised that a gun belonging to him was in the street at the location. A silver Ruger handgun was later recovered from the scene.

The juvenile is in stable condition.

A video recording of subjects in a dark colored SUV on Carmel Place pulling on door handles in the neighborhood was recovered.  This video was recorded on February 20, 2019 at 12:08 a.m. It is currently unknown if the wounded juvenile was involved.

A vehicle similar to one seen before and during the incident was captured on security camera video on February 19, 2019 with subjects pulling on door handles in the area of Fieldston and Morrison roads.

On January 20, 2019 the same juvenile was arrested near the intersection of Curran Road and Bullard Avenue for possession of stolen property when he was found in possession of a 2008 BMW earlier that night.

After being arrested and released, the juvenile returned to the victim’s residence. The victim called the police back to the location. It was learned the juvenile returned to the location to retrieve a vehicle reported stolen from Jefferson Parish that was parked near the location.

The juvenile was subsequently arrested for being in possession of stolen vehicle from Jefferson Parish, which he drove to the location where the 2008 BMW was stolen.

On November 11, 2018 the juvenile sustained a gunshot wound to the right leg in the 8800 block of Gervais Street after arguing with an individual identified as both a “cousin” and a “friend,” who the juvenile believed had stolen money from him.

On May 16, 2018, the juvenile was arrested for criminal damage to property (domestic) after punching holes in the walls at his residence and breaking a table. The juvenile was transported to a local hospital for a physical examination and a psychiatric evaluation.

The juvenile is currently in a local hospital being treated for his wound. An arrest warrant is being sought charging him with possession of a firearm.
