NEW ORLEANS (AP) - A Louisiana judge has set a March 11 trial date for the man accused of killing a New Orleans police officer last fall.

Criminal District Judge Franz Zibilich set the trial date for Darren Bridges after ruling on a series of defense motions to suppress evidence.

Bridges faces a first-degree murder charge in the death of 29-year-old Marcus McNeil, a three-year police veteran, on Oct. 13, 2017. He faces a potential death sentence if convicted.

Defense attorney Kerry Cuccia says he will seek a review of most of Zibilich's decision with the state 4th Circuit Court of appeal.

McNeil was the fifth New Orleans officer to die in the line of duty over the past four years. Two were shot and three hit by cars.
