Crime statistics for the first the first half of the year show big drops in every reportable category in Jefferson Parish.

That means already historically low levels of crime have fallen even further to new record lows.

"Midway through the year, we have seen a continued reduction in the number of reported offenses with a 10% drop over 2017's numbers," Lieutenant Jason Rivarde said.

The total number of reported crimes for the first six months of the year fell to 5,176 from 5,779 over the same period last year.

2017 had been the lowest crime year ever recorded, according to JPSO stats.

Murder, rape, robbery, assault, burglary, theft and auto theft were all down.  Five of the seven categories saw double digit decreases.
