Is it too soon to reopen schools in Jefferson Parish? Jefferson Parish President Cynthia Lee Sheng says she met with leaders of the Jefferson Parish School system to voice her concerns about students and teachers returning to the classroom.

“I think that if we could get back to school when there is a little bit more of a decline,” Sheng told WWL First News. “Overall there would be a better comfort level by the parents, by the teachers, by the students well.”

She says the School Board is its own governing body separate from parish council. School resumes on August 12. The Louisiana Federation of Teachers and School Employees rallied today to voice their concerns and demand the school start date be pushed back.
