The Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office says the deputy who was shot Sunday night in Metairie near I-10 and Veterans Memorial Boulevard will need surgery to repair damage the gunshot wound caused to his leg.

Deputy Christopher "Charlie" Haislup was shot in the leg and elbow when he answered a call to police about a man and his girlfriend fighting at the Wyndham Garden hotel at 6401 Veterans.

"He is currently in stable condition at University Medical Center and recuperating under the watchful eye of his wife and two children, a 2-year-old son and 8-week-old daughter," said Capt. Jason Rivarde, spokesman for the sheriff's office.

Meanwhile, a manhunt continues for the suspect, Tyronne Louis. Crimestoppers has increased its reward for information leading to his arrest to $10,000.
