An infant rescued from a house fire in Kenner Friday is in critical condition at University Medical Center.

Firefighters arrived at the scene Friday night to find the back of the house at 27th and Bessemmette covered in flames.

The first thing they heard was that there was a baby in the back of the building, according to Captain Gerard Deist.

The baby was carried to a waiting ambulance and taken to UMC where it is currently listed in critical condition.

Five firetrucks manned by 28 firefighters were on the scene.

No other injuries were reported. The fire’s cause is still under investigation.
