Four candidates for the top job of Louisiana House Speaker will make their final pitch for the votes of their compatriots later today.

The reviews and interviews will be held behind closed doors at a GOP delegation meeting.

Two candidates, state Representatives Clay Schexnayder and Sherman Mack, are leaders for the top position.

According to the Times-Picayune/New Orleans Advocate, both men say tort reform is their top priority.

Representative Schexnayder is on record favoring infrastructure, tax reform and possibly rolling back the state sales tax.

He reportedly is not in favor of a gasoline tax, something championed by Democrat Governor John Bel Edwards.

Sherman Mack is popular for his very conservative voting record during his eight years in office.

Mack is said to favor lowering taxes and reportedly has a plan for tort reform ready to go.

House GOP chairman Lance Harris is also a candidate for Speaker.

Representatives Barry Ivey and Ray Garofalo are also in the running for the top spot.

Garofalo sent a strongly worded email to House Republicans stating:  "We’ve been on defense for the past four years and I’m tired of it!"
