House committee approves Team Gleason license plate

A House committee has approved a bill to let Louisiana residents buy Team Gleason Foundation license plates which would help support the former Saints player in his fight against ALS.

It was the memorable punt that Gleason blocked against the Atlanta Falcons, which helped lead the Saints to victory, on the night the Superdome reopened after Hurricane Katrina in 2006 that most fans recall.  Gleason was diagnosed with ALS in 2011.

Gleason has taken the lead in developing life-enhancing innovations for ALS patients and has challenged Microsoft to craft technology allowing paralyzed individuals to navigate their wheelchairs with only their eyes

“I’m sure I don’t need to lecture the committee on the impact of Steve Gleason,” Walt Leger III, D-New Orleans, who sponsored the bill, said.

The House Transportation Committee approved the bill, and it will move to the House floor.
