The NOPD says a French Quarter bellman was wounded by an Uber driver shooting at a carjacking suspect early Saturday.
The suspect, Andre Satcher, was arrested in connection with the incident, reported around 1:30 a.m. at North Rampart and Canal streets.
Police say the Uber driver was stopped at a red light on Canal Street after picking up a woman at the Ritz-Carlton. Satcher allegedly got out of a silver sedan and approached the Uber drivers' vehicle, armed with a gun.
Investigators say the suspect demanded the driver and his passenger get out of their vehicle. As they exited, the Uber driver grabbed his firearm from the door and began shooting.
The gunfire struck the nearby hotel bellman, who suffered a gunshot wound to his hand.
An investigation continues. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111.
