High profile witness shot dead at apparent problem property

After flipping on his partners in a pair of bank robberies, Brian ‘Beano’ Hayes got out of jail on probation in 2017.

On Friday, Hayes was shot to death at the Rodeway Inn West I-10 Service Road in West Lake Forest.

According to the Times-Picayune/New Orleans Advocate, Hayes was shot dead at the scene by an unknown amount of gunshots.

It is not known if there are any suspects in the case.

Two others, a 23-year old woman and a second male were struck as well.

A spokesperson for U.S. Attorney Peter Strasser commented on the death of Hayes:  "At this time we do not see a connection between his death and his involvement in the trial."

Hayes was among at least three witnesses who testified at the Hankton trial to have received secret reductions in their prison sentences following the jury’s guilty verdicts.

After being convicted and sentenced to 20-years in prison for his role in the bank robberies he committed with Walter ‘Urkel’ Porter and Telly Hankton.

Hayes and three others received secret sentence reductions for their testimony at the trials of Hankton and Porter.

Hayes testified against Hankton and Porter, saying he’d grown up with Porter in Uptown.

He remarked he’d ridden in the passenger seat of Porter’s car, plotting crimes with his friend.

He also testified about the first murder Porter committed, the killing of Jessie ‘TuTu’ Reed, in which Porter beat the man death by hitting him 50-times.

Ultimately, the pair planned and with others committed a pair of bank robberies, making off with $130,000 in cash.

Hayes, along with seven others, were prosecuted in federal court of trying to launder the money after it had become stained from an exploding dye pack.
