WWL First Business News: High bike death rate and drivers don't understand their cars?

Jennifer Kushinka reporting...

Cycling in Louisiana can be dangerous.  The state has the second highest per-capita bicyclist death rate in the country, behind Florida.

Safety experts cite several reasons for a spike in cycling accidents, including more overall vehicular traffic and driver distractions.

Texting by drivers and alcohol are also big problems.

Are drivers ready for self-driving features?

According to a new study from AAA, most drivers don't understand the limitations of advanced safety technology installed on new vehicles.

The study indicates that drivers overestimate the capabilities of features such as blind-spot monitoring systems, automatic emergency braking and adaptive cruise control.

The findings raise questions about whether drivers are ready to adapt to partially self-driving vehicles.

More Gulf oil leases

The U.S. Interior Department says the next Gulf of Mexico oil and gas lease sale will offer about 78 million acres  - about the same amount as the sale in August.

The sale will be held in March, and will be livestreamed from New Orleans.
