Heat Advisory in effect through the weekend

Heat advisories will be in effect for the New Orleans metro area until 8 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday.

By mid-morning  Saturday, the heat index or "feels like" temperature had already climbed to the 100°+ range.

"I think we're easily going to get above 113, maybe toward 115 today for a heat index," says WWL-TV meteorologist Chris Franklin.

"And, keep in mind, the heat index temperature assumes you're in the shade...if you're in direct sunlight, add 15°! Which means in the sun, it can feel like over 125°," says Franklin.

It becomes dangerous when the heat index reaches 108° or higher. Use all precautions if you will be outdoors this weekend. An upper high will dominate this weekend preventing much cloud cover and, thus, any rain.

So, little to no relief from the sun is expected through the weekend.

We should see closer to normal highs and a slight return to rain chances heading into next week. And, a weak front may bring lower humidity late Monday into Tuesday.
