At an late afternoon news conference officials said the demolition of the Hard Rock Hotel at Canal and Rampart is set to be imploded in 9 weeks.

New Orleans Fire Chief Tim McConnell said they are finalizing a safe plan for implosion at the site and are moving forward.

"The contractor is saying 9 weeks and we will push and hold him accountable to it," McConnell said.  "Cleanup will be about 3 months to haul all the debris away."

According to a statement from 1031 Canal Development LLC., the owners of the property, multiple engineers advised that implosion would be the safest method to bring the building down. Kolb Grading LLC and Dem/Tech have been chosen as the firms that will handle the implosion.

Engineers are also working to create a temporary access plan which will get the Saenger Theater reopened, possibly in early December.
