Hammond man arrested for 6th DWI and hit & run

A Hammond man has been booked with DWI, his 6th offense according to Mandeville Police.  

On Wednesday afternoon officers were dispatched to investigate a report of a hit & run that occurred in the parking lot of the St Tammany Parish Library located at 3457 Hwy 190.  

The victim reported that her parked vehicle was struck by a white SUV.  Investigating officers quickly located the suspect vehicle which had been repositioned on the opposite end of the parking lot from where the crash had occurred.  As Officers approached the vehicle, which was occupied, the driver tried to flee the scene with officers giving chase. The vehicle backed into a ditch before it was able to exit the parking lot and the driver, 45-year-old Jason Beter, was taken into custody.

Beter was booked with DWI (6th Offense), Hit and Run Driving, Resisting Arrest by Flight and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
