Black Friday and Cyber Monday are over -- today is Giving Tuesday.

"Today we're trying to capture the generosity of folks throughout our region trying to get as much resources to great agencies trying to address the issue," said Michael Williamson, president and CEO of the United Way for Southeastern Louisiana.

Williamson says fully half of Louisiana households are impoverished or at great risk of it, with 19 percent of households in poverty.

"On top of that 19 or so percent, there's another 30 percent or so of households that are above poverty, but are just one paycheck away," he explained.

Williamson says 100 percent of donations made to the United Way today will go to their member agencies that deal with the issues first hand. Click here for more on how to give.
