Gas prices at the pump are creeping up for Easter week

Easter week could have some New Orleanians getting away for a few days and gas prices are slowing inching upward.

"Well, we've seen a slight but steady increase in the last week or so," AAA's Don Redman.

We're paying 7 cents more at the pump than this time last week and about 27 cents from this same time last year.  That means this spring, those gas prices will continue to go up, according to Triple A's Don Redman, who stresses its not just gas prices that determines the demand but more how the economy is doing.

"The current thinking is we're going to be looking here in Louisiana at a statewide average of about $2.50 a gallon by the time we get into the summer or into June," said Redman.  "I think it's going to be a slow increase, but I think nevertheless we'll see those prices continue climbing."

The average price of gas in Lousiana is currently $2.37 a gallon.  New Orleans is averaging $2.35 per gallon.
