Wesley Bishop, a former Louisiana State Senator who pleaded guilty to making false statements in order to receive money from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, received a four year sentence of probation, federal prosecutors announced today.

According to U.S. Attorney Peter Strasser's office, Bishop lied to HUD in order to get a $188,000 forgivable loan from the Road Home program. It involved a rental property Bishop owns in New Orleans.

Prosecutors say Bishop has agreed to pay restitution in the amount of the loan as part of his plea arrangement.
