The New Orleans Sewerage and Water Board has selected Ghassan Korban, formerly of the Milwaukee public works department, to head the agency that manages the city's drinking water, sewer treatment, and drainage.

According to The New Orleans Advocate, Korban held various roles in Milwaukee's public works department since the 1980s before being named its commissioner in 2011. Previous titles include engineer, construction supervisor, and chief construction engineer.

The board has been without an executive director for nearly a year, when Cedric Grant announced his retirement shortly after the August 5 flooding incident that exposed widespread trouble with the city's storm drainage system.
