The end is ever closer now for former Louisiana Governor Kathleen Blanco.  During an appearance before the Council for a Better Louisiana, Blanco said there is "no escape" from her incurable cancer, which was discovered in 2011.

Council President Barry Erwin says Blanco wanted to be "The Education Governor," and despite some heat, she also guided the state through Hurricanes Katrina, Rita, and their aftermath.

"I thought it was very moving and people were very touched about it, she was very honest about it, she called the cancer a monster and a beast than has taken over her body,'' Erwin said.

Blanco is the state's first elected woman governor and served from 2004 to 2008.

''In the early days there was a lot of negative attention and it looked like things were not going as well as they could have,'' said Erwin.

Later, Blanco received praise for the way she handled the Recovery School District and other matters after Katrina.
