Allegations of wide-ranging corruption in New Orleans permitting department have drawn the attention of federal authorities, according to a report in The Times Picayune | The New Orleans Advocate.

The publication reports its sources indicate it is a wide-ranging investigation likely to result in multiple criminal charges.

Signs have been indicatd since the indictment last month of city inspector Kevin Richardson. Richardson is charged with taking bribes from developers, and the indictment implicates a city permit analyst. That analyst was not named in in the indictment.

The indictment of Richardson prompted the Cantrell Administration to begin an internal review of the Department of Safety and Permits, a city spokesman told the Advocate.
