New Orleans Police say a 14-year-old boy and his 52-year-old dad are in custody, after police initially sought the teen in connection with threats made against Lusher Charter School.

Thursday, New Orleans Police received information that a student had made threats toward the school. Police say detectives identified 14-year-old Wyatt Johnston as a suspect and obtained an arrest warrant for him.

"Friday, we contacted the father in an attempt to have the kid turn himself in, to no avail," said Second District Commander Shaun Ferguson. "Initially, the father did make arrangements to meet with us, but then he declined."

Ferguson says officers persisted in their efforts to try and get the father to cooperate, but negotiations apparently soured: "After several more conversations, he explicitly stated he was not turning his son in to the New Orleans Police Department."

According to a police, a search warrant executed on Johnston's property turned up marijuana, related paraphernalia, and firearms.

Police say the teen's mother brought the child in this morning, and the father surrendered a short time later.
