According to Entergy New Orleans, power has been restored after a cat caused an outage that tied up traffic with signal lights out, and left people in sweltering homes and offices on a day with record heat. Power officials say a cat got into the substation. It did not survive.

Power had gone out this morning to more than 7,500 customers and affected a number of traffic lights from Louisiana Avenue to beyond the Pontchartrain Expressway.  A number of other traffic lights were also affected.

Outages were reported in Uptown, Central City, Mid-City, and the CBD.
