Because of the possibility of what could become Hurricane Barry approaching the Louisiana coast, parts of Plaquemines Parish will be under a mandatory evacuation beginning at 6 a.m. Thursday morning.  The evacuation also includes the area from the Oakville Floodgate and heading south to Venice.

A mandatory evacuation will take place for parts of Plaquemines beginning at 6, according to Parish President Kirk Lepine and will affect up to 10 thousand people.

A number of locations are open, including Boothville Elementary School, Buras Fire Department, Plaquemines Parish Government Building and Phoenix High School.

The Empire Flood Gate will remain open for the time being.

All fisherman are also under a safe harbor order.
