Detillier: The Saints can't afford not to pay Michael Thomas

Detillier believes a deal will get done soon

Saints wide receiver Michael Thomas is pressing the Saints to give him a new contract before the season starts.  But with big money already being paid to Drew Brees and most recently Cam Jordan, how can the Saints afford Thomas?

"The question mark is, can you afford not to pay him," WWL NFL Analyst Mike Detillier said.
Detillier explains Thomas is the guy who in 3 years has caught 321 passes the most of any wide receiver in the history of the National Football League.

"The bottom line is you structure a contract and it's all about guaranteed money," Detillier said.  "More than anything that's what the NFL is all about, guaranteed bucks."
Detillier said he thinks they'll get a deal done in the next few weeks.

"They'll get a deal done with Michael Thomas and it'll make him one of the top 3 or 4 wideouts in the National Football League, if not one of the top 2 or 3," said Detillier. "You may have to do a little restructuring but the way you have it done is to make sure you get bang for your buck, early on in the contract."
