The world famous Dead Rabbit, a fixture on New York's Water Street in Manhattan, is heading to the South.

According to Drinks International, New Orleans is the first of a number of roll outs for the Irish themed taproom and cocktail maker.

Dead Rabbit will make its New Orleans home on Conti between the Exchange Place pedestrian mall and Chartes, across from the Louisiana Supreme Court.  The vacant three story building building dates from 1830s.

The site shares a lot of the same characteristics as the original location.   "It’s a tri-level space, like 30 Water Street," Partner Jack McGarry told Drinks International.  "The first floor will be mostly standing, but will continue upstairs which will be seated and has an outside space. There will be space for 120 people with about 30-40 people on the third floor."

McGarry says Dead Rabbit will debut as a pop-up during Tales of the Cocktail conference in July.  After that the full bar will then open sometime in the immediate future.

The Dead Rabbit's owners have big plans.  They're goal is to create "the best Irish bar in every city" and are looking to open ten locations in every major city in the U.S. with New Orleans as their first.
